Systems for filling cover a large number of systems of different designs, from micro-filling systems with automatic or semi-automatic programs to complex automation systems; depending on the design, they combine feeder technology, packaging technology, robotics and visual object recognition systems. Filling systems can be broken down into innumerable technical variants and also differ in their level of automation, with the feeder or filling unit being an element they all have in common. Depending on the material and requirements, they vary in preparation, sealing and subsequent functions. The main differences are a) liquid filling systems > liquids, b) solid filling systems > bulk materials, slurries, and material properties should also be classified to select the ideal filling system. One criterion is flow characteristics, which imposes special requirements on the type of feeding equipment and feeder used in the system, other criteria include bulk density, viscosity, particle size, flammability and toxicity of the material; material characteristics determine the feeder , anticipating boxes and unloading aids.
